Desan Iyer is a full Professor in Law. He served previously as Acting Registrar at the University of Zululand as well as the Deputy Dean, Teaching and Learning at the Faculty of Commerce, Administration and Law at the University of Zululand. He is also an Admitted Attorney who practised the law before transcending into Higher Education. His research areas include Child Law, Criminal Law, Property Law, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning as well as Nonverbal and Legal Communication. He has presented papers at local as well as international conferences and served on the editorial board of numerous journals. He has supervised numerous postgraduate students to completion. In addition to being an acclaimed poet, he has published extensively in local and international accredited law journals.

  • LLD (UNIV. OF ZULULAND),
  • PGDIP in HE (UNIV OF NATAL, EDGEWOOD).

Professional membership:

  • Life-time member of Scholarly Association, Scientific and Technical Research Association.
  • Attorney of the High Court of RSA.
  • Mediator – KZN Association of Family Mediators.

Professor Iyer has approximately twenty publications (accredited law articles and literary works) in local and international journals and books.
